Medical Electives

If you are a medical, physiotherapy, nursing, midwifery or dentistry student, you’ll need to do several electives, but these don’t have to be in the UK, you can do them on a voluntary placement abroad.

Your elective abroad will be tailor-made to comply with UK regulations – check with your university or college to find out which companies offer the courses you need.

You’ll be able to experience diseases that have been eradicated in the developed world, and work with health professionals dealing with war injuries, epidemics and natural disasters. You’ll also be helping some of the world’s most overworked carers heal some of the world’s poorest people.

What will you be doing?

As you’re already in training, you will be trusted to perform hands on tasks; elective placements are customized to get you as much experience as possible of the specialisation of your choice.

Interpreters will be provided by the gap company, to make sure you get the most out of the time by being able to converse fully and safely with the doctors and patients.

You’ll be able to choose from a huge variety of medical specialties, with modularised programmes and qualified supervisors helping you every step of the way, from providing accommodation to helping you understand new illnesses.
