Why a business placement?

Globalisation is a word on every businessperson’s lips these days – almost every large company either manufactures abroad, has offices there, or even has different product lines for foreign markets. But when can the average UK businessperson get a chance to properly experience the different economies, cultures and trading preferences of overseas companies, right there where the action is?

This is where volunteering really comes into its own – you won’t be seen as a competitor, but a helper, and contributor for a business abroad – and as such you’ll gain a deep (and hopefully lucrative!) understanding of the country you’re working in.

What will you be doing?

Your CV will be sent off to various companies in the country of your choice. The companies are specially chosen to be within your interest range, for example, you could be working in the service or financial industry, manufacturing trade, consultancy market, or many other sectors.

Once your CV has been chosen, the company will organise your experience, to make sure you get the most out of your time abroad. You can do something relevant to your current career, or something with a more altruistic feel, but either way you’ll be sharing skills, exchanging ideas and learning from each other.

Why is abroad so important?

Once you come back to the UK, you’ll be someone who has inside information on the culture and economy of your chosen country, and you’ll be poised to take up high level, internationally communicative positions within UK businesses. Undeniably, cultural familiarity and a working knowledge of a foreign system will put your streets ahead of the competition.

Also, on a business placement, you’re guaranteed a job, and your gap company does all the leg work for you, finding the right position, in your choice of country. Wherever you go, you’ll be fascinated by a new way of working, and be right in the mix of a fast growing economy with unique obstacles to overcome on the way to success.

Undeniably, the future of business is global – by doing a business placement you’ll not only be helping foster relations between countries, but you’ll also be poised to be the connected, savvy, experienced businessman or woman of the future.
